Hambone’s Mercantile is named after my college “roommate”, a Mastiff x Rottweiler named Diesel. His legacy is a soft spot in my heart for “bully breeds”, mastiffs in particular. His successor is a Cane Corso named Tyson, the reference for our logo.
This shop got it’s beginnings attempting to fill a gap in native wildflowers available to end consumers through big-box stores. Confusing marketing and unfamiliarity with native species made navigating developing native gardens from home settings difficult. Hambone’s Mercantile began addressing this by offering native seeds ethically collected from wild populations on private lands. We also offer native plants propagated from some of those seeds.
We began offering mini foraging and native plant walks for people who were interested in learning more in a small group setting. We still offer foraging and wildflower walks, but have expanded our store offerings since then.
We focus on sourcing sustainable products, regenerative practices, and educational materials dedicated to native plants, healthy ecosystems, and living in cooperation with our environment as much as possible. We offer plants native to Texas, and where possible, include origination location for our seed stock.
